Domaine Taupenot-Merme Description

ROBINS

Medium to deep purple, sunny but attractive fruit on the nose. A light peachy note alongst the dark raspberries. Fills the mouth with impressive concentration, and the structure at the back is balanced. Very persistent. In its supercharged style this works very well. (12/2021)

A slightly riper but still fresh nose reflects notes of both red and dark currant, newly turned earth and hints of wood and black pepper. While the medium-bodied flavors are not quite as refined, they're close with a lovely texture as well as good power and focus on the dusty, austere and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. The 2020 Morey AC is one of the riper wines in the Taupenot cellars this year, as the wine comes in at 14.5 percent, but does not show any signs of sur maturité on either the nose or palate. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a sappy blend of sweet dark berries, cassis, espresso, a hint of pomegranate, dark soil tones, a dollop of cedar and a lovely topnote of currant leaf. On the palate the wine is bright, pure and full-bodied, with a good core, lovely transparency and grip, ripe, buried tannins and a long, energetic and focused finish. This is lovely. The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village was quite closed on the nose despite coaxing, then there is a touch of menthol that springs out of nowhere. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, plenty of red fruit, touches of raspberry, wild strawberry and black pepper on the finish. (NM) (12/2021)
