Château Le Crock Description

MT

Due to a division of the large Léoville estate, Chateau Léoville Poyferré was created in 1840 and included as a Second Growth in the famous 1855 Classification. In 1920, the Cuvelier family purchased the estate and Didier Cuvelier has been in charge since 1979.

Major investments were made to bring out the best in the vineyards, and the cellars were also renovated. In 1994, noted consulting oenologist Michel Rolland began to offer his precious winemaking advice. The final blend is made after many careful tastings. Chateau Léoville Poyferré is aged in oak barrels, 75% of which are new every year. It is an extremely well-balanced wine with a great deal of finesse and excellent aging potential.

Product Ratings

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Big and tannic, very firm and tough. Yet all the fruit is there, offering great potential. There is a ripe, juicy aftertaste. Under the same ownership as Château Léoville-Poyferré in Saint-Julien. Inner quote mark (6/2011)

90-93 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Round, bright and pure, with silky-textured plum, cassis and blackberry fruit and a long, iron-tinged finish. The grip really struts its stuff on the finish, with the fruit showing excellent persistence. Inner quote mark (3/2010)

90-91 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark I like the juicy and spicy character in this wine, with currants and berries. Full and refined with lovely tannins. I want to drink it already. Inner quote mark (4/2011)

Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The tiny, picturesque jewel of a property, sandwiched between Cos d'Estournel and Montrose, is owned by the same family that owns Chateau Leoville Poyferre in St.-Julien. A final blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2010 has turned out to be ripe, attractive wine with notes of sweet mocha, red and black currants, pen ink and light as well as sweet tannins. This wine is medium-bodied, elegant and best drunk over the next decade. Inner quote mark (2/2013)

Tasting notes

An extremely sweet wine and charming finish. It frees bright fruit and lots of volume. A delicious wine with a nice finish on the fruit.

Food pairing

Red meat and cheese
More wine is younger, decanting in advance is necessary to aerate the wine, closing the carafe with its stopper.
