For this reviewer's money, BP's Estate Pinot offers the best bang for buck. While still a special occasion wine, it's almost as gorgeous as its elder siblings, and crafted for drinking younger. Ironically, it's also the one that takes longest to open up. But when it does, it billows aromas of dried cranberry, cherry preserves, umami-like mushrooms, cocktail bitters and potpourri. The palate is silky with a lift of crystalline acidity, wound ultra fine, talc-like tannins. An iron fist in a velvet glove, this is long and elegant, able to age another 5-7 years but drinking beautifully right now. (CP) (3/2023)

A rich and ripe impression on the nose of this estate edition, this has a violet-like floral edge, as well as forest-berry and sappy tones. The palate has rich, punchy flesh and a sense of weight, with ripe red cherries, earthy herbs and sous-bois. A bolder edition of this pinot with real weight. The acidity is salient, too. Drink over the next eight years. (1/2022)

Australia's most famous – and expensive – Pinot Noir estate (the 2019 Reserve will set you back about £900/bottle) was recently bought by Burgundy's Jean-Marie Fourrier, but this vintage was founder Philip Jones' last. It's a beauty: layered and complex flavours of cherry conserve, nutmeg and cinnamon, wet soil, rhubarb freshness and firm, black tea tannins. (TG) (1/2023)
