VARIETAL: Muscat VINEYARD: Wasson Vineyard. Planted in 1978 in the east valley of Willamette Valley (also known as the Cascade Foothills). The soil type if jory which consists of very deep, well-drained soils that formed in colluvium (loose sediments that have been deposited at the base of hill slopes by either rain wash, sheet wash, slow continuous down-slope creep, or a variable combination of these processes) derived from basic igneous rock. These soils are in the foothills surrounding the Willamette Valley. They have been mapped on more than 300,000 acres (1,200 km2) in western Oregon. They are named after Jory Hill, Marion County, Oregon, which itself is named for the Jory family, who settled in the area in 1852, after traveling along the Oregon Trail. Growing urbanization of the Willamette Valley is resulting in a great deal of pressure for development in areas of the Jory soils. FARMING: Dry farmed, sustainable practices VINIFICATION: Wild yeasts are used are used to ferment the wines. A week before
