Terranoble was founded in 1993 in the Maule Valley, located in the southern end of Chile’s central region. Since then they have expanded the vineyard holdings throughout Chile, becoming recognized as one of Chile’s top cultivators of Carménère.
Terranoble launched their CA labels in 2009, showcasing Carménère fruit harvested in two different vineyards - one coastal, one in the Andean foothills - in the Colchagua Valley. Farming and vinification for both wines is the same but the difference between the coastal and inland fruit is stark.
The CA1 Andes label uses fruit in the warm Andes foothills of the Colchagua valley, at an elevation above 1200 feet. This elevation, the hot, dry climate, and the poor clay-loam soils in this area result in a wine that is loaded with ripeness and structure. After harvest the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak and allowed an additional 12-18 months to age in bottle before release.
This is a classic Carménère with blackberry, dark-chocolate, roasted-coffee and green bell-pepper aromas. The palate is bold with concentrated flavors of dark berries, plum, mocha, and hints of woodsmoke and pepper on the finish.
A fine red to pair with brisket, pot roast, and cozying up to a roaring fire.
