Older “Amber” wine made from indigenous grapes using traditional Georgian Quervi (amphorae). I tasted this wine over two days and twice on the first day. The recommendation from a local sommelier was to chill it and decant for a couple of hours. Fortunately I poured a splash into my glass before decanting. The initial tasting was intriguing.
The wine was medium amber and slightly cloudy. Most impressive was the funkiness on the nose
(volatile acidity) but beautiful sweet floral smells and almost tropical fruit tones. Not so much on the palate however it was dry with a nice acid and mineral base. The finish was primarily floral with the persistence of the acidity.
