Domaine des Peres de L’Eglise has a long history in the Southern Rhone Valley as the family has been involved in grape growing and winemaking in the region dating back to 1884. However, the modern era for the property begins quite recently, with the start of high-quality wines only beginning to take place with the 2007 vintage. Stepping back just a bit, prior to the birth of Domaine des Peres de L’Eglise in 1978, the estate was known as Domaine de Saints Peres. Today, the property is owned by the Cardassi family. Domaine des Peres de L’Eglise owns 15 hectares in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. 13.5 hectares are planted for the production of red wine grapes. 1.5 hectares are reserved for the white wine, grape varieties. The terroir for the red wine is clay and limestone soils. The vines are scattered over the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation with their best vines being planted in Les Bosquets, Cabrieres, Grand Pierre, Les Grands Serres, Terre Blanche, Vaudieu and Coste Froid.
Winemaker Notes
L'Héritage de Pollus is a 100% Grenache from 100-year old vines planted by the estate's ancestor nicknamed “Pollus” on the terroir of the Coste Froide lieu-dit. The glass opens with a profound expression of blackberries, ripe plums, and currants. Full-bodied on the palate, this wine is right in the prime of its maturity: the fruit flavors seamlessly integrate with a touch of savory black pepper, baking spices, and just a hint of bitter chocolate. It has enough power that it will stand up to a robust French country dish such as cassoulet or andouillettes with garlic aioli, yet it also is rounded and mature enough to build and complement the meal, rather than overwhelm it.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
All Grenache from the lieu-dit of Coste Froide, aged in demi-muids, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape L'Heritage de Pollus offers up hints of scorched wood, mocha and black olives on the nose. It's full-bodied, rich, velvety and long, but the concentrated dark fruit notes lack precision and the cedary notes are a bit too prominent on the finish. Still, it may surprise with another few years in the cellar—this sample had apparently only recently been bottled.
