ROBINS
Another one of those wines that comes in a 1.0 liter bottle – so one-third bigger than usual – because the wine is so nutso good that a regular bottle couldn’t possibly be enough. Here the grape is Riesling – all stone fruit, lemons and cracked slate – and the place if Piesport in the Mosel River Valley – no peaches or lemons; plenty of cracked slate. It’s labeled Trocken, which means dry. The designation allows up to 9 grams/liter of residual sugar, and we’re not gonna lie – there is some RS here. Which is a really good thing, because every gram is needed to balance the sizzling acidity and flavors of tart lemon meringue, broken rock, lime zest and green peach. This shows outstanding flesh and drive and a beautifully pixilated, detailed, finish. I you don’t know what that means, buy a bottle of this and start drinking. Before you’re done with the extra wine, you’ll either know – or not care. Seriously, this is yummy and fun.
