Winemakers Notes

Fruit from our own Biodynamic® estate is carefully blended with that of other like-minded vineyard partners to make our flagship Pinot Noir from a successful Oregon vintage. This wine is testament to Oregon’s reputation for outstanding Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that only grows stronger over time.

TASTING NOTES

A wonderfully complex and flavorful wine, our Pinot Noir opens with aromas of dark berries and plum, joined by tea leaves, cedar forest, orange zest, flowers and spice. Fruit flavors of dried blackberry, dark cherry, thimbleberry and marionberry are well balanced with accents of bright orange, oolong tea, leather, forest floor, cocoa and a savory note of umami. The finish is lengthy and robust.

WINEMAKING PROCESS

Whole clusters are destemmed then allowed to cold oak for 48 hours with daily pump overs. Some whole clusters are left intact in select lots for additional complexity. During fermentation, 10% of juice is bled off using the Saignée method for further concentration of flavor and color. Fermentation is in stainless steel open top tanks with daily punch downs. Aged in French oak barrels for 10 months.

VINTAGE NOTES

Despite a heart-stopping frost on April 15, the 2022 vintage rallied to a highly successful close. Optimal conditions in late June resulted in exceptional fruit set and continued through July and August. Crop estimates in August beat expectations, giving the first indication that we had rebounded from the frost. A warm September followed by the warmest October on record accelerated ripening and boosted yields, creating a new challenge to bring in all that ripe fruit in a compressed window. Cooler fall-like conditions arrived in the last week of October when the last remaining blocks and vineyards were harvested during breaks in weather.
