Kerr Description

Kerr Cellars is a boutique winery based around a small, passionate team of award-winning wine professionals. Their Napa Valley and Sonoma County wines are made in classic styles inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, yet they are definitely Californian in their balance of finesse and opulence. They source grapes from the finest vineyards throughout the valleys and obsess over every detail from the health of the vineyard soils to the grain structure of their oak barrels. They do this because of their passion to craft extraordinary, terroir-focused wines.

This 2018 has gorgeous aromatics of candied ginger, cassis, red and black fruit, rose petal, and anise. The nose lingers further with boysenberry, red earth, aromatic black tea, hints of cedar, and balsamic. The palate has an incredibly silky entry with flavors of dark fruit, flowers, red earth, exotic spices, and crushed stones. This wine has terrific weight and gorgeous texture followed by a flavorful and very lengthy finish. Delicious now, and will age effortlessly for as long as you wish to cellar it.

Wine Advocate scored this 93 points saying, "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III needs a little coaxing to reveal compelling scents of freshly crushed blackberries, black raspberries and red plums, plus suggestions of red roses, underbrush and damp soil with a waft of cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate gives a good amount of crunchy red and black berry layers with a finely grained texture and tons of freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. 100 cases were made."

Wine Spectator scored this 93 points as well saying, "A mix of black currant, raspberry and plum fruit shows range and freshness in this nicely packed red, while singed apple wood, black tea and sassafras accents chime in the background. Drink now through 2032. 214 cases made."

James Suckling gave this 93 points saying, "Blackberry, black chocolate and blueberries on the nose, following through to a medium-to full-bodied palate with brambleberry, cedar and lightly earthy character. Medium finish. Needs time to open. Lovely center palate. Try after 2023, but already very attractive."

Jeb Dunnuck also gave this 93 points saying, "There are roughly 200 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III (100% Cabernet Sauvignon). Helen has been here since 2013, and the 2018 is more lifted, floral and perfumed, with lots of blue fruits, wild strawberry, violets, candied orange, and spice-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's layered and has silky tannins, beautiful fruit, and a great finish."
