Growing Season For a year that was completely out of normal in many aspects, Harvest 2020 was not one of them. Bud break began in mid-April, well aligned with historical averages. Late July and early August saw some heat spikes, but, overall, it was a fairly moderate, even summer. Harvest began the third week of August, well aligned with many recent years. Significant wildfire smoke came in during the second week of September, pausing harvest for nearly 10 days. The layer of smoke also stalled sugar accumulation and pushed harvest for some varieties into cooler parts of September and October. Production Methods Handpicked, crushed, and destemmed directly into square open top fermenters. We do not use a must pump; this helps tame the tannins. The ferments are hand punched down. We press directly into barrel where it where it ages sur lee and completes malolactic fermentation.
