Heritage School Vineyards is a small producer of premium California, Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from the Calistoga AVA. It was founded in 1997 by David and Linda Jenkins, after 20 years of travel through the wine regions of France, Italy and California. David and Linda, as well as their four daughters - Hanna, Casey, Julie and Missiaen - put hard work and dedication into making this unique property into a way of living to call their own. The Heritage School Vineyard property is 48 acres of diverse terrain that used to be a private boy’s school.
Hillside Vineyard is a steep and rocky site, planted in 1998 using 110R rootstock and clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s red volcanic soils and cool afternoon temperatures lend to Hillside’s most structured and concentrated wine.
Lakeview Vineyard has rocky, chalky soils and receives great sunlight and excellent drainage. Lakeview is Heritage School’s mid-block vineyard and is planted with a combination of clone 6 and 337 Cabernet Sauvignon on 101-14 rootstock.
Creekside Vineyard is 2.5 acres planted in 1998 to clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon and is normally the last vineyard to be picked. Creekside has alluvial soils and is dry farmed, with a creek running the length of its east side.
Thomas Rivers Brown has been Heritage School Vineyard’s winemaker wine 2006. Thomas Brown is one of United State’s most accomplished winemakers. He began his winemaking career with Turley cellars in 1997. Today he is known for crafting some of Napa Valley’s most celebrated and sought-after wines, and has spoken highly of Heritage School Vineyards:
“Tucked in the hillsides northwest of downtown Calistoga, Heritage School Vineyards continues to produce wines of impressive purity and texture. These full-bodied wines have personalities that reflect their mountainside location and ideal grape growing soils. Year after year I am impressed by the quality of grapes grown here, making this one of Napa Valley’s finest up-valley vineyards.”
"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Missiaen's Hillside Vineyard is the darkest and richest of these wines, but it also has enough structural breadth to handle all of that intensity. Superripe plum, bittersweet chocolate, tobacco and licorice all flesh out over time. This is an especially rich, seamless style, yet all the elements are in the right place. - Antonio Galloni"
