The Petrolo wine estate is situated in the province of Arezzo, between the eastern Chianti area and the Arno river, with the magnificent Pratomagno mountains as a backdrop. Petrolo has always done things their own way and are known for their own labels, rather than those of the territory.
Torrione represents Petrolo’s vineyards in their natural proportions: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. At an altitude of 820-1640 ft above sea level, the soil is mostly loam, with variable rocky stratifications of schist, marl and, sandstone. EU certified organic farming as of the 2016 vintage, and natural/sustainable farming since 2004. Dry farming, no tillage, total grassing with mulch management, and no use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
This drinks so far above the $25 price that it's a bit shocking. We HIGHLY recommend loading up on this brilliant new vintage ASAP. First come, first served!
PAIRING IDEAS: So simple, so perfect. Beef carpaccio (ask a butcher to slice some thin), add arugula or frisee, and tons of shaved parm. Drizzle a bit of good olive oil, a dash of red wine vinegar, and S + P. That’s it. Oh, wait, BREAD! Crusty bread, grilled even better. You’re DONE!!
