Long before wildfires broke out in Napa Valley and Sonoma, vintage conditions had been difficult. The drought in the early months of the year indicated that yields would be lower in 2020 than the bumper crops of 2018 and 2019. But low yields didn’t equate to low quality. With pressures from others coming down to this region to purchase fruit, we feel fortunate we were able to secure this fruit. Maturation: French Oak Barrels Aroma: Cedar box, tobacco and dark red fruits with notes of briar patch. Dark Bing cherries. Palate: This wine has good structure, soft balanced tannins and is persistent in the mouth and finishes dry. This is a wine to drink now and doesn’t need aging. The Diseño de California project was inspired from a collection of hand-drawn maps from the late 1800s depicting numerous regions of California. These maps served as the original Spanish and Mexican Land Grant Records at the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848. Following California’s statehood in 1850, the state created a Board of land commissioners to legitimate land claims of Mexican citizens. These historical records serve as a reminder that these Hispanic farmers were some of the first people to recognize and define California's unique geography with this series of hand-drawn maps. Despite seldom receiving the recognition they deserve, to this day the Hispanic community continues to be the central pillar of the wine industry through hard work, resilience, and a deep connection to the land.
