From the Lalande de Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, the La Chenade 2020, made by the daughters of the late, great Denis Durantou, is hugely expressive on the nose, with aromas of earthy black fruits, plums, liquorice and spice. The palate is soft and supple with plenty of bright fruit and chewy tannins. This wine can be enjoyed now with pleasure.
Owned by the Durantou family since 1999, Chateau La Chenade had, until recently, been under the talented leadership of Denis Durantou of L’Eglise Clinet. Sadly, Denis passed away in 2020, passing the winemaking responsibilities on to his two daughters, Noémie and Constance, whose first vintage in charge has been a huge success. Located in the lesser-known appellation of Lalande de Pomerol, just north of Pomerol itself, the estates vineyards are planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. They produce wines of great depth and complexity and are amongst the best values wines in Bordeaux.
Food matches: Serve this wine alongside steak with mushrooms, duck breast on a bed of buttery mash potatoes, or with cheeses like Comte, Beaufort and Gruyere.
