2020 SONOMA COAST CHARDONNAY
Our appellation wines are a direct reflection of the place where our estate grapes are grown. We strive to stay out of the way in our winemaking so as to not obscure terroir. When blending these wines each year we try our best to express the characteristics of place and embrace the vintage.
APPELLATION NOTES
The Sonoma Coast is one of the most stunning places on earth, and we are privileged that we get to farm grapes there. Within this large appellation, our preferred area is what is often referred to as the True Sonoma Coast (west), a more specific area that focuses on the ridges along the Pacific Coast from the Sonoma/Mendocino County border down to Bodega Bay. Our estate vineyards Sealift and Tidal Break are planted here and they each benefit from the soil, elevation, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. These characteristics define the terroir for growing world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
Aromas: Wet sand, poached pear, apple pie and a hint of custard
Palate: Fresh, medium plush and a backbone of fine tannin gives this wine texture and good posture. Explosive flavors of fresh tarragon, Gravenstein apple, and pear.
VINTAGE NOTES
While navigating a global pandemic, many of the wine regions of the West Coast were devastated by wildfires that threatened or destroyed the grape harvest. We were fortunate to have a harvest that was high quality and undamaged. If you take away the struggles, 2020 was a near perfect growing season.
