Chāteau Le Bon Pasteur Description

This 7 hectare property is composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc situated on clay, gravel and sandy soils. The average age of the vines is 30+ years. The wine is fermented in small stainless steel tanks before being aged in new French oak barrels for 15-18 months dependant on the vintage.

Deep color and delicate bouquet, as well as a softness typical of Pomerol and a generous, powerful side reminiscent of Saint-Emilion are the hallmarks of the wines of Château Le Bon Pasteur.

This extraordinary complexity results from the mosaic of identities of its 21 cadastered plots in the Pomerol appellation, to the French border of St. Emilion.

From the talented Michel Rolland, the 2019 Château Le Bon Pasteur shines for its richness as well as its elegance. Ripe black cherries, currants, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it has the vintage’s fresher, pure, vibrant style in both its aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has fabulous tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's already hard to resist yet has another 20-25 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Best after 2022.

Plenty of château typicity in this plump and frank Pomerol laden with touches of blackberry, marzipan and saffron spice. I love the Cabernet Franc edge giving sculpting and lift on the finish. 70% new oak.
