This intriguing red made from 80% dried Merlot and 20% Pignolo is a deep and dark purple. As its poured, aromas of grilled plums, macerated black cherries, freshly cracked pepper and candied violets leap from the glass. Luscious and rich, the palate moves between flavors of blackberries in liquor and savory roasted herbs and spices. Sweet tannins make the palate easy, but it has volume, making this a wine that needs rich, bold flavors to pair with: think grilled steak or heady cheeses. — Jeff Porter
