Allegrini Description

“La Poja” Corvina Veronese IGT by Allegrini is a standout vintage from 2017, produced in the Veneto region. The grapes come from vineyards situated at 320 meters above sea level, where vines averaging 43 years of age are cultivated using the Guyot system. Planted at a density of approximately 4,240 vines per hectare, the vineyard’s calcareous soil, enriched with skeletal matter, contributes to the wine’s distinctive profile.

The 2017 vintage benefitted from consistent growing conditions, avoiding frost and hail that affected other parts of Italy. Rainfall was below average but well-timed, ensuring healthy grape development. The temperature shifts in the final weeks before harvest further enhanced the aromatic complexity of the wine.

Hand-harvested in early October, the Corvina grapes undergo gentle pressing after de-stemming, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 22-31°C with daily pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in November in barriques. The wine then matures for 20 months in new Allier barriques, spends an additional eight months in large Slavonian oak barrels, and rests in the bottle for ten months before release.

With an alcohol content of 14.73% Vol and a total acidity of 5.85 g/l, “La Poja” offers depth and elegance, combining dark fruit, spice, and balsamic notes in perfect harmony. The palate is layered yet effortless, balancing richness with freshness and structure with finesse.

Ideal for pairing with roasted red meats, game, mature cheeses, and dishes featuring porcini mushrooms or black and white truffles. With a potential to age for up to 20 years, it is best served at 18°C, with the bottle opened an hour in advance.
